first day
today i went to my work for the first time, but i didn't actually do any work. i filled out some papers, then i went to the employee health center to answer some more questions and sign some more things and get my blood pressure taken. they also gave me a TB skin test, and then they sent me to the lab to get some blood drawn (because i didn't have m shot records so they have to test my antibodies to silly things like chickenpox). after that i went back to the human resources office and they gave me some more papers and took my picture for my id badge. i thought that would be all, but then they said i needed to drive to a whole other building for a drug screening...why they were not able to do a drug screening there (at a HOSPITAL) i don't know, but it took me forever to find it because it was out in the 'burbs and the streets are all confusing out there. and i hate peeing in a cup. i always get really nervous. luckily today i had to go pretty bad so it wasn't that difficult.
anyway, i have my real first day next week on tuesday. i have orientation in the morning and then i meet with my manager in my department. i don't know what other days i will work. then my mom is coming to visit at the end of next week. i am really excited!! we are going to do some fun stuff and maybe a little shopping for some things for the house. she said she gets stressed out about decorating (her own house), but i like it. i don't like how expensive it can get, but i think we are going to go to ikea which is fun and they have nice things that are really inexpensive. we also are going to the aquarium (per david's request) and maybe the lincoln park zoo. i like it when people come to visit because it gives me a reason to get out and do things besides go to the grocery store and (eventually) work. so if you feel like coming to chicago let me know! we'll have a good time. mom's coming next weekend and then in august i will hopefully have michelle and juliah and dayna and tiffany visiting. My knitting friend sarah is coming for Stitches (a knitter's convention!) in September. I will probably be going home in September to see my mom and everyone, and then later in september to see my dad when he comes home from Iraq. Then mom and dad are going to come visit me in October so he can see our place and our new town. This summer will go fast.
